Course 1 Implement server virtualisation for a sustainable ICT system.

Server virtualisation provides the opportunity for significant power savings, performance and life cycle enhancement of server infrastructure.

Completion of this unit should enable you to implement server virtualisation for a sustainable ICT system.

Specifically, you should be able to:

1. Develop and present a feasibility report
2. Confirm virtual server specification
3. Install virtual server
4. Integrate and test virtual server.

Course 2 Green IT solutions

Install and test power saving hardware.

The global community is seeking to be informed on the issue of sustainable developments that meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
More sustainable hardware solutions may be achieved by effectively planning and managing the installation and testing of power saving hardware, and understanding the principles and procedures behind improved hardware energy efficiency.

Completion of this unit should enable you to install and test power saving hardware.

Install and test power management software


The benefits for activating power management features on individual computers:

1. Cutting the electricity used by your PCs roughly in half, saving $25-$75 per PC annually. To estimate the savings, you can use the online calculator: http://www.energystar.gov/ia/products/power_mgt/LowCarbonITSavingsCalc.xls


2. Helping the environment. Saving energy reduces air pollution associated with the burning of fossil fuels, and ultimately lowers the risk of global warming.

Completion of this unit should enable you to install and test power management software.


Install and test renewable energy system for ICT networks


Renewable energy systems provide the opportunity for significant power savings and environmental benefits.

Completion of this unit should enable you to install a renewable energy system comprising solar cell, wind generator, deep cycle gel cell and regulator. Load test its operation and the principles behind feeding surplus power back into the supply grid.


Course 3 Install & test thin client low powered workstation fed by Power over Ethernet for Web 2.0.

More sustainable and energy efficient solutions may be achieved by effectively planning and managing the installation and testing of Web 2.0 OS and applications on a low powered workstation, fed by power over Ethernet.

Completion of this unit should enable you to install and test Web 2.0 OS and applications on a low powered workstation fed by power over ethernet.
